Harbour-side Benches in St. Peter Port

12th October, 2017

We have been installing granite benches throughout the Harbour to replace the many old wooden type benches. In addition, in consultation with the Harbour Master, sites have been identified where there have been no facilities for the public to sit and enjoy the delightful views around the busy Harbour.

There are two types of benches which have been accepted by the Environment Department. One is a cantilever type (featured), which is attached to the Harbour wall in a number of areas, and the other is a stand alone type. There are now over 90 installed throughout the Town including the Careening Hard, Crown Pier, Albert Pier, St Julians Emplacement, The Fishermans Store close to the Model Yacht Pond, Viewing Area at the Model Yacht Pond, Petanque Courts near the QE2 Marina and most recently, the walkway besides the North Beach Car Park.

In partnership with the Constables of St Peter Port, we have arranged for the refurbishment of 16 Victorian Style Wooden Benches which are now installed on the pier. Permission has been granted to install 10 Victorian wooden benches on the Castle Walkway and there remain 3 which do not have sponsors. The cost of sponsoring a bench is £800.

Following receipt of planning permission for the installation of 24 granite benches on the walkway side of North Beach carpark, 6 benches have now arrived in the island and are available for sponsorship at a cost of £2,800.00 including engraving. Already we have 5 benches installed, and of the 6 available 3 are now sponsored and should be installed very shortly.
